EP Study
Electrophysiology Study (EP Study) at Park Hospitals is a specialized cardiac diagnostic procedure performed to evaluate the electrical activity and rhythm of the heart. The procedure helps identify abnormal heart rhythms, also known as arrhythmias, and determine the exact location and cause of irregular electrical signals affecting heart function. An EP Study is commonly recommended for patients experiencing palpitations, dizziness, fainting episodes, rapid heartbeat, unexplained irregular heart rhythms, or suspected cardiac conduction disorders.
Before the procedure, cardiologists and electrophysiology specialists conduct detailed clinical assessments along with electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiography, Holter monitoring, blood investigations, and other cardiac evaluations to determine the need for further rhythm analysis. Patients are also advised regarding medication adjustments, fasting instructions, and pre-procedure preparation to ensure safe and accurate testing. The treatment plan is personalized according to the patient’s symptoms, medical history, and cardiac condition.
During the procedure, thin flexible catheters equipped with electrodes are inserted through blood vessels, usually in the groin or neck region, and guided toward the heart under imaging guidance. These electrodes record the heart’s electrical signals and help specialists study the flow of electrical impulses within different areas of the heart. Controlled electrical stimulation may also be performed to trigger and analyze abnormal heart rhythms. The procedure is typically carried out under local anesthesia and continuous cardiac monitoring to ensure patient safety throughout the examination.
One of the major advantages of an EP Study is accurate identification of arrhythmias and precise assessment of the heart’s electrical conduction system. The procedure helps specialists determine the most effective treatment approach, which may include medication management, catheter ablation, pacemaker implantation, or other cardiac rhythm therapies. Since the procedure is minimally invasive, recovery is generally quick, and most patients are able to resume normal activities within a short period after observation.
With experienced cardiac electrophysiologists, advanced cardiac catheterization facilities, and comprehensive heart care services, Park Hospitals provides specialized diagnostic evaluation and rhythm management through EP Study procedures. Early diagnosis and timely cardiac intervention can help improve heart rhythm control, reduce complications, and support long-term cardiovascular health and patient well-being.
