Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common bacterial infections that affect any part of the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract, particularly the bladder and urethra, but untreated infections can spread to the kidneys and become more serious. At Park Hospitals, advanced urology services, specialized diagnostic facilities, and comprehensive urinary health programs support the early diagnosis and effective treatment of urinary tract infections.

UTIs are most commonly caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract through the urethra. Women are more likely to develop UTIs due to anatomical factors, although men and children can also be affected. Additional risk factors include urinary obstruction, kidney stones, diabetes, pregnancy, weakened immunity, catheter use, and poor bladder emptying.

Symptoms commonly include a burning sensation during urination, frequent urination, urgency to urinate, lower abdominal discomfort, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, and blood in the urine. Kidney infections may cause fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and flank pain.

If left untreated, urinary tract infections can spread to the kidneys, resulting in pyelonephritis, recurrent infections, kidney damage, and bloodstream infections in severe cases.
